There will be no cross sculpture above the town of Toftir, Eysturoy.

A press release issued today by the organisers reads as follows:

The organisers and the sculptor have had further talks regarding the plan to set up a 17-metre tall multicoloured glass cross at Høganes, Toftir.

The project was presented to locals at a public consultation session on 23 March under the slogan of “bringing joy to everyone”.

A model of the sculpture was presented to the locals, who were invited to share their views on the project.

Realising that there have been critical voices and that this project may not bring joy to everyone, the organisers and the sculptor believe the most reasonable course of action is to abandon the project.
