Population growth continues
On 1 December 2020, the Faroese population was 52,920, which is a year-on-year increase of 847 people, or 1.6 percent.
The biggest increase was in Tórshavn, Klaksvík, Runavík, Eystur, Nes, Vágur and Tvøroyri municipalities, reports Statistics Faroe Islands.
A noteworthy change in recent months is a relatively high population growth in Sandoy and Suðuroy, along with a stagnating growth in Vágar.

While 39 percent of the Faroese population live in the capital region, this region represented 43 percent of the total population growth over the 1 December 2019-1 December 2020 period.
Eysturoy, which has 23 percent of the population, represented 27 percent of the total growth in the same period.
Norðoyggjar, with 12 percent of the Faroese population, represented 10 percent of the total population growth.
